Heavy body odour, or BO, is caused by the apocrine glands in the armpits and groin which release pheromone sexual hormones. They develop during adolescence and secrete a sticky, oily substance which becomes pungent on your skin. The smell from these glands is much more distinctive.

‘It’s there for a reason, and signals to others that you’re brimming with hormones and ready to procreate,’ says Mr Whiteley.

Yeah, and sometimes you just have to perform an exorcism and burn your sports bras in the front yard so they don’t contiminate everything else.
